In the clip called "Trendspotting" from the Daily Show, comedian Demetri Martin uses humor to make his point regarding the recent rise in the popularity and use of social networking programs such as Facebook, Myspace, and Friendster.
It seems that his point about the popular social networks is that they are perceived as a way for young girls and boys to advertise themselves to other people their age, or sexual predators who lie about their age. I completely agree with Martin about the dangers that exist within those social networks. It is so easy for a registered predator to sign up for a Myspace simply by making up a name and lying about his age.
I have a Myspace and Facebook, but I do not "advertise" myself or have 9000 friends. I have a mere 25 friends and I will not friend anyone who I do not know. There are also so many really young boys and girls that lie about themselves in order to be able to make themselves a profile in those networks. It is sad because they do not know what they may be potentially getting themselves into, such as being an easy target for sexual predators. Martin did take a different approach to presenting his view on social networks, but I believe that he did a wonderful job.

I agree with Martin as well. I think that not only are things like Facebook and Myspace dangers to younger kids but consume an enormous amount of time in peoples lives that could be better spent.
I think another reason Martin uses his humor to get his point across is because of the audience he is aiming to reach. These days parents are younger, and more likely to watch the daily show on Comedy Central rather than the 7 O'clock news. Nonetheless, all parents need to be aware of lure of social networking sites when it comes to children...and themselves for that matter.
I do agree with what he is saying. In this day and age there is much to be worried about. Predators of younger teens or teens in generall is something to be greatly concerned about. The way Martin went about presenting how he felt about this is great. It gets people interested. Things like myspace and facebook are not always bad however, they are great. You can meet new people and make new friends through these sites. It's also a great way to comunicate with friends, classmates, etc., you just need to be careful about who you do talk to and make sure you are careful. It's sad but there are people out there that want to take advantage of the younger part of society.
